MARION, Ind. — A driver died Tuesday night in a head-on crash on State Road 9 north of Marion, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release issued Wednesday.

911 callers reported the crash at 8:35 p.m. Tuesday on State Road 9/North Huntington Road between East Bocock Road/East County Road 375 North and East County Road 450 North. That’s in a rural area about a mile north of Marion.

The sheriff’s traffic reconstruction team thinks that the Volkswagen was traveling south on State Road 9 and the Ford F-250 was traveling north when the vehicles collided. What may have led to crash was not in the news release.

Deputies found the driver of a 2019 Volkswagen, a woman, dead. The release did not say what type of vehicle she was driving.

The driver and passenger in a 2017 Ford F-250 truck were treated and released.

The release did not name anyone in the crash, but said Grant County Coroner Stephen Dorsey was working to confirm the woman’s identity and locate her next of kin.

Sheriff Del Garcia expressed condolences to the family and friends of the woman who died and offered support to the other driver, witnesses and first responders. The Van Buren Police Department, Marion Health medics, the Washington Township Fire Department and the Van Buren Township Fire Department assisted at the scene.

Marion is about an 80-minute drive northeast of downtown Indianapolis.
