FRANKLINTON, N.C. (WRAL) – Franklinton High School’s principal is speaking out Monday after the Franklin County sheriff said a juvenile was in custody for an “active shooter hoax” earlier in the day at the school.
The statement made to Franklinton families says, in part: “Today we were the victims of an awful prank. No shots were fired on our campus, and there was no actual threat to our students. … Our FHS community is strong, and it is during moments like these that we must continue to support and care for one another.”
Franklinton High was placed on lockdown Monday morning following a report of a possible active shooter, but authorities said a sweep of the school found no threats.
The call came in at 10:23 a.m., prompting the school to go into lockdown.
