(KRON) -- A Millbrae man who repeatedly stabbed his former roommate in 2024 was found guilty on Tuesday of attempted murder.
Qi Peng, 34, was also convicted of one count of mayhem, and the San Mateo County jury found allegations of great bodily injury and the use of a deadly weapon true. He was found not guilty of criminal threats, and the allegation of premeditated and deliberate murder was found not true.
Prosecutors said Peng took “matters into his own hands” when he stabbed the 54-year-old victim on the morning of April 10, 2024, in an alleyway behind 25 Hillcrest Blvd. The previous month, the former roommates and coworkers had gotten into a physical altercation where the victim punched Peng, but no charges were filed, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office.
Peng purchased a $250 chef’s knife to use in the April attack, prosecutors said. When the victim stepped out of his apartment, Peng “pointed the blade of the knife at the victim’s throat and then began stabbing him in the abdomen/chest area,” the DA’s office wrote.

A witness told authorities that after the victim fell to the ground, Peng continued to stab the victim in the leg.
The victim survived after undergoing multiple surgeries.
Peng is scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 17. He remains in custody with no bail.
